After seven games in La Liga, the former champions find themselves in fourth place with only 13 points after winning 7 games, drawing in 1 and losing two games in what looks to be a very tough Spanish league season. Barcelona have only lost five games last season so if they continue with this form the title might slip up from the Catalan to go to one of the Madrid clubs. Barca has lost their last game against Celta Vigo away from home in a game that had seven goals in it (4-3). They still miss their main man Lionnel Messi due to injury and it was very clear last game how much of an impact does the absence of ‘he little wizard’ have on the team. Messi is not the only player who’s doubtful to start in the next game, Jordi Alba, Rakitic and Samuel Umtiti all have injuries and could be also absent from the next game, giving the Barca coach Luis Enrique a very tough challenge.
On the other hand Deportivo are also struggling to string the wins together, standing in 13th place with 8 points from two wins, two draws and three losses, but they eventually won their last game after a 5 games of losses and draws. So the task is not going to be easy on either team with each team having its own problems.
Head to head
Barcelona have scored 8 goals past Deportivo only in their last game which ended 8-0 to the Catalan. The meetings before that was always for Barca winning 4 of their last six meetings and held to draw in two. Deportivo hasn’t beaten Barca since April 2008, but if there’s any chance they could do it again they won’t find any better than this one, given the injury list right now at Barca.
